I did something unusual this week. I’ve decided to give my book, The Seller’s Journey, for FREE TO ANYONE!
Not just a few chapters, not a PDF you have to trade your email and first born for.
It’s the whole book.
Every chapter (and pictures too)
Everyone of course wants to know “Why?” A totally fair question. And here’s my honest answer.
“The perfect combination of sales fundamentals, actionable techniques, and agile approaches that can help any sales professional level up.” John Barrows, CEO of JB Sales
What you’ll learn in this post
- Why a free, un-gated book beats a gated PDF for actually changing how reps sell
- What’s inside The Seller’s Journey, and how it connects to N.E.A.T. Selling™
- Where the Respect Contract shows up in the book, and how it plays with the framework
- How to read it, how to get a printed copy, and what to do if you want your whole team trained on it.
Why I took the gate down
Unfortunately most books are read once and then put away. Especially sales books. We know the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve does what it always does: within a week most of what you read is gone, unless something forces you back to it. Well, I wanted to make sure it’s at your fingertips if you felt like you needed a refresher on a particular sales conversation best practice. This is the same reason my sales training includes training and reinforcement sessions.
A book that lives on your shelf won’t do anything other than collect dust. It won’t reinforce anything.
A book that lives on a URL can.
So now you can:
- Read it on your laptop.
- Pull it up on your phone.
- Send a chapter straight to an SDR, an AE, or a CSM
- Drop a link in the team channel before your next stand-up.
You can no longer blame your leadership team for lack of sales training.
What’s actually in the book
Earning the right to ask questions, knowing which questions to ask, and when to ask them is what I preach, teach, and use myself. I’ve worked with: GE, Visa, Salesforce, Zoom, and a host of early stage and expansion stage start-ups through this material. This is the exact same training they get, and now you can have it for free.
The Seller’s Journey is that material, written down.
A few examples of what’s covered:
- Controlling a sales conversation without sounding scripted
- How to earn the right to ask harder questions earlier
- What to actually say when procurement starts negotiating terms
- How N.E.A.T. Selling™ (Need, Economic Impact, Access to Authority, Timeline) replaces guesswork with a repeatable structure, and how it stacks up against MEDDIC, BANT, and SPIN
- How the Respect Contract sets the tone for every business conversation from the first one to the last one.
Ahhh, my favorite word, hope-i-um. Those are the deals that make up your pipe-dream, not your pipeline, because you don’t have the actual evidence necessary to feel good about the deal in your forecast. You got a fake timeline, you don’t have a champion, you have a cheerleader, you think you have authority but you never asked to speak to the skeptics. This book is where all of it lives in one place.
Free isn’t charity. It’s just math.
Yes, this is altruistic, and yes there’s a bit of selfishness too. Both are allowed at the same time.
Here’s what I expect to happen:
- Some of you will read it, apply something, and win a deal you’d have lost otherwise. That’s the whole goal.
- Some of you will read it and disagree with parts of it. Good. Tell me why. I can take it.
- Some of you will still want a physical copy for the shelf or the conference room. It’s on Amazon and everywhere else books are sold.
- And some of you run a sales team. You’ll hit a chapter, recognize a problem your team has right now, and want help fixing it faster than a book alone can. That’s a conversation worth having. Reach out here.
Frequently asked questions
Is The Seller’s Journey really free, with no email required?
Yes, 100%. The full book is live at thesellersjourney.co with no sign-up, no email capture, and no paywall. Every chapter is public.
What is N.E.A.T. Selling™, and do I need to know it before reading?
N.E.A.T. Selling™ stands for Need, Economic Impact, Access to Authority, and Timeline. For some it’s a sales process, for others a sales methodology, and for others it’s a philosophy to bolt onto their current approach. You don’t need to know it going in. The book teaches it from the ground up, and you can see how it compares to other frameworks like MEDDIC and BANT on the N.E.A.T. Selling comparison page.
Can I still buy a printed copy?
Yes. The Seller’s Journey is available on Amazon and through other major retailers if you’d rather have it in hand or on a shelf. Better yet, read it, write a review, and I’ll send you a signed copy if you want one, for free.
Can I use this to train my sales team?
Of course! That’s a huge reason why I’m doing this. Everyone can use a little help now and then, and now you have it at your fingertips. Pull individual chapters into team meetings or 1:1 coaching.
If you want a structured version with reinforcement built in, the 4-week N.E.A.T. Selling training and reinforcement program is built for exactly that.
How does the Respect Contract fit with N.E.A.T. Selling™?
The Respect Contract is what earns you the right to ask questions. Essentially, it’s the ramp to running a N.E.A.T. Selling™ conversation in the first place. It sets mutual ground rules with a prospect before discovery starts, so the harder questions later in the call don’t feel like an interrogation. You can read the full breakdown on the Respect Contract page.
One ask
If you like what you read, please share it with someone else. If you read it and something lands, good or bad, tell me. Hit me up on LinkedIn DM. I’ll even take a text: 415-596-9149. That’s my real number. And we know this because it’s the only one my kids use to text me when they want money.
Good advice should move around. Read it free at thesellersjourney.co.
